William “Red” Ouimet, lifelong resident of Northampton, son of the late Howard and Polly
Ouimet, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 29, 2022. He was 76 years
old. During his lifetime he was a member of the St. Patricks Association. He marched as St. Patrick
for the Northampton contingent of the Holyoke St Patricks Day Parade for over 20 years. He was
the 2012 recipient of the Brennan Award from the St. Patricks Association. He was a member of the Sons of the Legion Squadron 28 of the Northampton American Legion Post 28. He was active in Legion baseball, King, and Cushman Post 28. In his younger years he was involved with the sports of St Michaels High School having many fond experiences with the athletes and the coaches during the 1960s until they closed in 1976. He was an avid lifelong fan of the New York Giants. He loved sports, especially watching professional wrestling on television. He worked for 36 years for the department of mental health at Northampton state hospital. He leaves behind his sister Sandy Cunningham and her husband Edward of Southampton, his sister Amy Jo Sullivan of Florence, his sister Krislyn Lequin and her husband Ray of
Chesterfield. He also leaves behind his brother Thomas Ouimet from the Baystate section of Florence.
He leaves behind his nieces Julianne Sherman and her husband Chuck of Vermont, Jill Eva
Cunningham of Westfield, Nicole Ouimet of Holyoke, and Jamie Paradee and her husband
Ernest of Florence. He was predeceased by his nephew Daniel Cunningham and leaves behind
his nephews Shamus Sullivan of Florida, Shaun Sullivan of Northampton, and Chad Ouimet of
Florence along with several great nieces and a great nephew. Red took a lot of pride in being a
wonderful uncle to all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 5th at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 99 King Street in Northampton, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Northampton. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 4th from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in his memory may be made to St Judes Childrens
Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children or to a charity of your choice.
