Walter Peret Jr., age 78, of Northampton, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
After attending Northampton High School and earning his GED, Walter was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, serving as a radio teletype and radio operator. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career at the National Felt Company in Easthampton, MA, where he quickly rose to the role of department supervisor, overseeing more than 70 employees in a demanding, around-the-clock operation.
Walter later established a successful electrical contracting business, specializing in residential design and installation. A true innovator, he had a passion for electronics and mechanics, developing several devices ahead of their time. His love for learning led him to Holyoke Community College, where he studied algebra, calculus, and other subjects to deepen his electrical expertise.
Music was another of Walter’s great joys. He played the accordion and took pride in restoring many antique models. Known for his generosity, he often provided contracting services to friends, family, and those in need.
Walter is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Peret, and his beloved sons, Tim and Kevin.
