Suzzanne Beth Daneau passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024 surrounded by family and love. Sue was born on September 6, 1956 in Randolph, MA. She grew up in Beverly MA and graduated from Beverly High School in 1974. She worked for Honeywell, did a brief stint in real estate, and then at the Internal Revenue Service for nearly 25 years as an Information Technology specialist.
Early memories include road trips with her family and singing old songs like “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby” and “Bell Bottom Trousers.” She probably knew more song lyrics than anyone on the planet (especially if it was a Beatles tune).
Suzzanne married Richard Daneau in 1982, whom she later divorced. Largely on her own, Sue raised a daughter. Laurie fondly remembers a childhood of fun & silliness, handmade Halloween costumes, elaborate Easter baskets, and magical Christmas mornings – Sue’s favorite holiday. In Laurie’s teens, Sue was the “cool mom,” who loved Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and bringing Laurie to rock concerts (sometimes even during school hours). Sue was a mother Laurie could depend upon unconditionally - a mother she looked up to and was so very proud of.
For several years, Sue lived with and cared for her elderly mother and together they shared a Thursday night dinner with other local family members.
Suzzanne moved to western Massachusetts in 2017 to be closer to her daughter and soon-to-arrive grandson. She continued to stay connected with her family back on the north shore via frequent phone calls and regular visits to attend performances at the North Shore Music Theatre. She enjoyed hosting her north shore family for Thanksgiving and gathering with local family to share dinner on Christmas Eve.
For the last few years she has lived comfortably in her Sears Kit Home that was renovated by her son-in-law Greg and a team of dedicated helpers. The bright yellow bungalow was lovingly named the “sunshine submarine house” by her grandson Maddock.
Suzzanne was an avid reader and lover of red wine. She enjoyed cruises with close friends, spending time in Florida, watching shuttle launches, and visiting Old Orchard Beach every summer. Though she wouldn’t call herself a cook, Sue made a mean quiche, which many looked forward to.
Sue was a dedicated observer of politics, proud cat lady, and a surprisingly big fan of K-pop. She loved attracting wild birds to her yard, gardening, and had a knack for amassing a menagerie of house plants. Seasonal amaryllis bulbs were a favorite she looked forward to growing and displaying every year. But her greatest joy was being with and caring for her family, especially her grandson Maddock, who looked forward to his weekly sleepovers at “Baba’s” house and delighted in tinkering with the goofy knickknacks that she could never quite resist bringing home.
Sue was smart, funny, selfless, and far too humble. She brought love and light to the lives of all who were lucky enough to have known her. She will be missed dearly.
Suzzanne was preceded in death by her parents Janice and Harold Goodwin. She is survived by her daughter Laurie Simmons, her grandson Maddock Simmons, her son-in-law Greg Simmons, two brothers, Scott Goodwin and Steven Goodwin, and cat Delilah.
VISITATION WILL BE HELD AT AHEARN FUNERAL HOME IN NORTHAMPTON, MA FRIDAY THE 15TH OF NOVEMBER BETWEEN 4:00 AND 6:00 PM.
