Florence

FLORENCE - Steven Alan Rood (Steve), 72, of Florence, died peacefully in his home on December 1, 2025, surrounded by friends and family. Steve was born and raised in the Northampton area, attended Northampton Public Schools, and completed two years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he majored in Art. He had been employed at Tubed Products in their printing department for more than 30 years before his retirement 10 years ago.

Steve was a phenomenal artist. He had the unique ability to see things in a way that lent to some beautiful abstract artwork. The result was, without fail, stunning and unique. But Steve was more than a phenomenal artist. He gave to several causes important to him, he enjoyed reading, and he loved music, especially rock and roll. He enjoyed car racing, robust conversation with friends, and he had the most spiritual of hearts.

He was predeceased by his mother Pamelia Morris (Lepine), his stepfather Ray Morris, and his brother, Peter Rood. He leaves behind his two loving daughters, Becky Reade of Gill, MA, and Chelsea Parker of West Springfield, along with four grandsons, Tyler, Tobe and Tanner Reade (Gill), and Levi Parker (W.S.), and his cousin David Morin (Neil) of California. He also leaves his dearest friend of 30 years, Tracy Magdalene, her family, and her husband, David Farnham, with whom he had a close friendship. He will be missed greatly by Paula, Lynn, John, and Loretta, neighbors who cared for him when he needed it. Steve was incredibly courageous, and he passed without pain and without struggle. He was remarkable, and one thing that made him remarkable is that he never knew it. A light has gone out with Steve’s passing, but he will live on, always, in those fortunate enough to have known him.

Hospice allowed Steve to pass pain-free and with dignity; for that we are most grateful. At Steve’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service; however, donations made in Steve’s name to Cooley Dickinson & VNA Hospice, 30 Locust St., Northampton, MA. 01060 would be greatly appreciated.
