Sally M. (Boyce) Powell died peacefully in South Hadley on Saturday, July 29, 2023 surrounded by family. Born in Brookfield, Massachusetts, November 25, 1922, daughter of Lee and Beatrice (Hicks) Boyce, she was raised and was married to John H. Powell in 1948 on the lawn of Elm Hill Farm, home of the original Elsie the Cow of Borden fame. She moved to North Lebanon, Maine, in 1978, and lived there before moving to Hatfield, Massachusetts, in 2011. Sally was a graduate of Brookfield High School and the Massachusetts College of Art. She was an art instructor for several years in elementary schools in Winsted, Connecticut, and Brookfield, and taught elementary school in East Brookfield and Sturbridge, Massachusetts, for 14 years. She was an avid gardener and a lifelong painter. Her artwork was exhibited at several sites in southern Maine and in numerous craft shows. Her love of teaching was nearly as strong as her passion for art, and she taught a class of adults in her home in Maine for 25 years. She was a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, United Maine Craftsmen, and Maine Women in the Arts. She leaves sons Jonathan of Sanbornton, New Hampshire, and Russell and his wife Bar of Holyoke, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law Barbara Powell of Hamilton, Montana; her dear niece Barbara Wilson and grandniece Karen Seremet of Brookfield, Massachusetts; grandsons Jesse Powell of Denver, Colorado, Brian Powell and his wife Cassie of Grass Valley, California, and Lane Powell and his wife Robyn of Sparks, Nevada; granddaughter Rita Powell and husband Justin Beebe of Belmont, Massachusetts; nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Powell, sons Donald and David, and a sister, Vivian. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE WITH FAMILY REMEMBRANCES WILL BE HELD AT THE BROOKFIELD CEMETERY, WEST MAIN STREET, BROOKFIELD ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, AT 11 A.M. There are no calling hours.
