Rita M. (Aldrich) Douville, 94, of East Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026, at Care One in Northampton. Rita was born in Northampton, a daughter of the late Wyman and Regina (Gougeon) Aldrich. She was educated in Northampton schools. Rita furthered her education, graduating from Nursing School at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She began a long career with Cooley Dickinson Hospital and worked there over 35 years until her retirement in 1996. Rita enjoyed her retirement and throughout her life enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting and knitting.

She married Richard L. Douville and they shared 66 years of marriage, happy memories and a loving family. Richard predeceased Rita on July 18, 2019. Rita leaves her family; her daughter, Diane Douville; sons, Richard Jr. and his wife Martha, Gerald and his wife Lexie, Edward and his wife Suzanne; her beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Robert, Chris, Ethan, Jarrod, and Edward Jr; and his great grandchildren, Savanna, Bryan Jr, Cadence, and Aiden. Rita also leaves her sister, Claire Diemand and many nieces and nephews.

Rita was predeceased by three siblings; Janet Cleary, Joyce Elliott and Leonard Aldrich. Rita shared a room with her late sister, Janet at Care One and was very beloved by the staff, who enjoyed her sense of humor. The family would like to thank the staff who provided care, compassion and concern for her time there and in her final days and gave her a peaceful transition from this life.

There will be a calling hour at AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton, on Monday morning, July 20, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. with a Prayer Service at the Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Northampton.
