Peter Wakelin

January 12, 1964 — September 17, 2023

WORTHINGTON-Peter Wakelin, 59, devoted father, loving son and friend to many, died suddenly on September 17, 2023. While he left us without notice we are not without great lessons and legacy. Peter was born in Ruddington on Trent, England on January 12, 1964, a son of Alan Wakelin and Maria (Ritucci) Wakelin. Always a kind and gentle man, he taught us to appreciate the small things in life. Pete prepared us for the world and would often quip, “Don’t forget your rain gear” as his sentiment for any type of travel. He taught us to embrace the present, he never missed the chance to ask “Wanna go boating?!” when the weather was at its most inclement. We also learned that the best beach days are usually a random sunny day in March or even October. He shared his love for the beauty of nature and was quick to send pictures of sunrises, sunsets, wild amounts of snow at his new home and many creatures, big and small. He was a wildly talented tradesman who gifted his children an eye for the details and incredibly expensive renovation tastes. You could stand in awe of his ability to paint or his impeccable precision work and if you acknowledged any of his many talents, he always met them with a humble response. Pete loved his friends, children, and family deeply. He was quick to say he was proud of something we accomplished, full of compliments and pensive when there was life advice to be shared. He was a lighthearted friend who met you with a handshake or a hug and often a story or joke. He was also an incredibly thoughtful gift giver. Peter taught us that there is always more love in the world. He described his love for Stephanie Sousbies with awe and delight. They went everywhere together, small town trips, hikes, kayaking, boating, more hikes, and breweries. There was music and life to be embraced and he was there for it. They had a beautiful and sweet life together with many friends in the Valley who brought him great joy in the last few years. We’re forever grateful. Pete is survived by his love Stephanie Sousbies, and his former wife Stephanie Strine and their two children and their spouses, Alyssa & Timothy Lord, Devin & Michelle Wakelin, his siblings Paul, Mark and Helen, as well as his dear mother, Maria Wakelin. He leaves many extended family both local and across the pond. He will be greatly missed by all.
