PLAINFIELD-Norman E. Beckwith, 70, of Plainfield passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital with his family at his side. Waxy as family and friends knew him as, was born in Northampton, a son of the Late Walter and Albertine (Bernier) Beckwith. He attended local schools and graduated from Smith Vocational & Agricultural high School. He enlisted in the US Army, serving with the 64th Transportation Co. of the 7th Army. He was honorably discharged and returned home in 1975. Norman met Patricia Wilcox, and they got married building a house in Plainfield where they raised their family. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage, memories and family together. Waxy worked for George Propane, retiring in 2020, yet never one to sit still, he continued working with them. He had previously worked for George Judd and Cotton tree Service in his younger years. He was very active and respected in the Truck Pulling community and competed all over the Northeast for many years. He especially enjoyed just spending time with his family, he was the first to always lend a hand to others. Norman leaves his beloved wife; Patricia (Wilcox) Beckwith. His sons; Matthew Beckwith and his partner Ashley Pease and Tobey Beckwith and his wife Marsha. His two cherished grandchildren; Taylor and Cody Beckwith. He also leaves his siblings; Leo Beckwith, Ernie Beckwith, Peter Beckwith (deceased), Ronnie Beckwith, Chris Beckwith and many nieces and nephews and extended members of the Beckwith and Wilcox families.
Burial will be private. A celebration of Norman’s life will be announced at a later date.
