MIDDLEFIELD-Michael W. Romanowski, 67 of Middlefield passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 7, 2025, with his life partner, Lucy Miller, at his side. Michael was born in Northampton, a son of the late Thadius Romanowski. He leaves his mother, Grace (Larkin) Romanowski of Northampton. He was raised in Northampton, attended local schools and graduated from Northampton High School. Michael furthered his education, graduating from Springfield Technical Community College with a bachelor’s degree in design and applied arts. He joined Kollmorgen Optical, starting as a Draftsman in the electro-optical division. Michael spent 29 years with Kollmorgen in various capacities. He retired as the Operations Program Manager. Michael’s primary area of expertise was planning and executing major projects for the US and foreign nations in Naval aspects around the globe. Michael had many varied interests including rock and gem collecting, animals, hiking, cross country skiing, painting, creating jewelry, and playing congas. He had lived in Middlefield, MA. for many years, enjoying the peace and quiet of country living, enjoying time with his family and socializing with his many dear friends there. He leaves his beloved partner, Lucy Miller of Middlefield and her children, Olivia Miller of Washington, D.C. and Jake Miller of San Francisco, CA; his mother Grace Romanowski of Northampton; his daughter, Cherylin Romanowski of Pittsfield; and his grandchildren: Oliver, Winifred and Wolf. He also leaves his siblings: David Romanowski and his wife, Nancy, of Winchendon; Steven Romanowski and his wife, Jenny Jackson; and Susan Ryan, of Southampton. Michael also leaves many nieces, nephews, and the extended members of the Romanowski and Larkin families. A Celebration of Michael’s life to be held in Florence will be announced.
