Maureen Ann (Goulet) Mathers passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026. Born on December 6, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of the late George Joseph and Anna May (Holmes) Goulet.

A 1957 graduate of Northampton High School, Maureen pursued a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She earned a certificate in Pediatric Nursing from The Boston Floating Hospital in 1959 and graduated from the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she later earned an Associate Degree in Arts from Holyoke Community College in 1981 and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from Fitchburg State College in 1984.

Over her distinguished career as a Registered Nurse, Maureen served on the Williamsburg Board of Health for six years, including three years as Chair, where she provided vital health inspection services. She also worked in respiratory home care for the Northampton VNA, served as a supervisor at Western Mass Hospital, and occasionally worked as a substitute teacher at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School.

Maureen met the love of her life, Charles, at a square dance, and the two were married in 1959. Together, they raised three children, modeling unconditional love, commitment, and the true value of family loyalty. Maureen delighted in traveling near and far with Charles, family, and friends—with destinations including Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Mexico, Texas, Lake Tahoe, Missouri, and throughout New England. She especially cherished adventures with her dear sister Mavis and brother-in-law Dick, bringing home stories that brought endless laughter.

An avid reader, Maureen could often be found relaxing in her rocker with a cup of tea and a good book. She was a member of and served as Treasurer for the Friends of Meekins Library, dedicating time to community events and inspiring a love of reading in others. She reveled in the joy and sisterhood of the Red Hat Society, loved cultivating vibrant gardens featured in the Williamsburg Garden Tour, and was a woman of faith, belonging to the First Congregational Church of Williamsburg and attending services at the Haydenville Congregational Church.

Maureen’s greatest passion was her family. She put family first, gave her love generously, and lived as a model of career dedication, loving partnership, family devotion, and steadfast friendship. Her happiness, quick laughter, and kind, listening heart touched everyone who knew her. Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles.

She is survived by her devoted children: sons George Mathers (Shelley) and Michael Mathers (Karen), and daughter Charlene Nardi (David); her cherished grandchildren: Charles M. Mathers, Caitlin deBros (Guy), Jessica Paquette (Jeffrey), Ryan Mathers (Ashley), Michelle Ewell (David), Jacqueline Hinds (Jordan), and Anthony Nardi (Meghan); her adored great-grandchildren: George T. Mathers, Nolan Paquette, Ella deBros and Julian Mathers; her loving sister, Mavis McGaugh; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital. The family also invites you to honor her memory by making a blood donation to help save a life.
