Mary Anne Snape

June 23, 1944 — June 25, 2025

CHESTERFIELD -Mary Anne (Pash) Snape passed away unexpectedly at home on June 25, 2025, two days after her 81st birthday. Mary was born on June 23, 1944, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Joseph & Jeanette (Deaton) Pash. Mary’s interests were knitting and gardening and you could find her at home doing one or the other. Many family members and friends have sweaters, hats, mittens, heavy socks, and afghans. Each year she would knit three or four sweaters for the Plainfield Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Annual Fundraiser Barbecue to help her Son-in-law, Dennis Thatcher with silent auction items. This was an absolute love for her. Each year the sweaters were different.
Gardening has been a part of her life for more than 60 years. It started at the Pash Farm in Chesterfield. There were very large greenhouses that she would use to plant seeds in and would take care of the seeding until they could be transplanted into approximately 50 acres of gardens. The vegetables were sold to a variety of stores including Atkins and Big Y. She was out in her vegetable garden when she passed away. Mary also drove one of the “Baby Blue” Pash lime spreader trucks that her father owned and operated. She would spread lime on fields, golf courses, orchards and even ski slopes.
For 45 years (1970 – 2015), she drove a school bus for Hampshire Regional High School, Westhampton; Chesterfield Grammer School, Chesterfield, Gateway Regional High School, Huntington; Worthington Grammer School, Worthington, and finally retired at the age of 70.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Henry Snape Sr., Granddaughter, Jennifer Maire (Thatcher), Slater, Son-in-law, Dennis Thatcher, sisters, Nancy (Pash) Phaneuf and Carol Pash. She is survived by her Children; – Theresa Anne (Snape) Thatcher of Plainfield; Henry Snape Jr. of Chesterfield; Shirley Louise Snape and partner Jorge of Easthampton; Penny Sue (Snape) Lambert and husband Bryan of Gaffney, SC; and her sister, Maybelle (Pash) Monfette of Florida.
