Mary E. Regan

September 19, 1937 — September 30, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Regan on September 30th, at the age of 87, after a sudden decline in her health. Born on September 19, 1937, in Pittsburgh, PA to William and Eileen (Taylor) Weinzierl, Mary was valedictorian of her high school class and one of the first women to attend Columbia University, from which she graduated Summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She had a beautiful voice, singing in night clubs in Greenwich Village to help fund her way through college. Upon graduating, she became a practicing nurse in Connecticut (while raising four children) and founded and ran one of the first Home Health Care agencies in that state. Mary loved gardening, reading, and cooking (including many of her own culinary creations), and upon retirement (first in California and then eventually in Massachusetts), she devoted herself to these and to her children (and eventually grandchildren), who were the center of her life.
Mary’s deep intellect, keen and irreverent sense of humor, indominable spirit, contagious laugh, and beautiful smile, left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Strong-willed and stubborn at times, she also had a generous heart and cared passionately about trying to make the world a better place. She truly loved her children and grandchildren and derived tremendous joy from her many ‘furry children’ – the cats and dogs she surrounded herself with during her life, many of whom she rescued.
Mary is survived by her children Patrick, Julie (Robert), Allison, and Brendan (Shawn), her grandchildren Abigail, Max, Luke and Alex, and her dog Cholula (aka Choochoo). We love you Mom – you will be deeply missed.
