Lillian E. Mcphee

Lillian Edith McPhee of Florence, MA, aged 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Lillian was born in Boston, MA, on February 1, 1931, to Giosue and Emilia (Iannuzzo) Finizio. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Waltham, MA, and pursued her passion for nursing, earning her RN at Lawrence Memorial School of Nursing in Medford, MA. She furthered her education at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital Surgery Program in Baltimore, MD, specializing in operating room management.
Throughout her career, Lillian worked diligently at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD, and New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA, where she served as a surgical supervisor. In 1965, Lillian relocated to Florence, MA, where she continued her dedicated service at Clark School for the Deaf, Rockridge Retirement Community, and Smith College Health Care Services until her retirement in 1997. Even after retiring, she remained active in her community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the blood pressure clinic through Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Lillian found immense joy in nurturing her home and family. She had a green thumb and took pride in her beautiful gardens. Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of homemade meals and baked goods, which she lovingly prepared for her family and friends. Lillian's artistic talents extended to painting with watercolors, a hobby she cherished. She was known for her warm hospitality and for hosting countless family gatherings filled with laughter and love. Lillian was a dedicated member of the Annunciation Church of Florence, where she found solace and community.
Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence R. McPhee, her brother Frank Finizio, and her brother-in-law Peter Nobile. She is survived by her daughters Diane McPhee of California, Kathryn Murphy (William) of Southampton, Lauren Lamica (Paul) of Southampton, and Elizabeth Coles (Douglas) of California, and her five grandchildren Emily Lamica, Erin LaMontagne, Renee LaMontagne, Jocelyn Murphy and Nora Murphy. She also leaves behind her sister Kathryn Nobile of Newton, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for their compassionate care of Lillian during her final days.
The family invites you to join them directly at Annunciation Chapel, 85 Beacon St., Florence on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. to celebrate A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Lillian. Burial of her ashes will follow the Mass in Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 North Farms Rd., Florence. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, PO Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061 in memory of Lillian.
