NORTHAMPTON / OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME - Joseph Michael Ustaitis, Jr., 77, was born on January 1, 1949 and passed away from a short illness on October 23, 2026. Joe was a longtime resident of Northampton, Massachusetts, and Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where he enjoyed splitting his time between the two places he called home.
Joe proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and later dedicated almost 30 years of his life to serving the community as a police officer for the City of Northampton. His commitment to helping others and his dedication to his community were an important part of who he was.
Outside of work, Joe loved being active and surrounded by friends and family. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing and participating in adult league slow-pitch softball, volleyball, and basketball. Whether competing on the field or court, or simply spending time with the people he cared about, Joe had a passion for staying active and making memories.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Eunice (LaPlante) Ustaitis and by stepson Michael Frenier. Joe will be deeply missed by his son, Seth; his daughter-in-law, Jolene; his grandchildren, Ava, Harlen, and Layla; his longtime partner, Jean Bryant; Jean’s son, Chris Frenier and Chris’s children, Jack, Cameron, and Vincent; and his three sisters, Joanne Arnold, Nancy Milne and Barbara Donovan, along with their husbands, children and grandchildren.
Joe leaves behind a lifetime of service, friendship, laughter and memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Northampton Country Club. Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Joe’s life and sharing memories of a man who meant so much to so many.
The family asks that donations be made to the Lowell Humane Society at 951 Broadway Street Lowell, MA in Joe’s name.
