NORTHAMPTON, MA — John Galvin, 87, of Warner St. in the Baystate section of Northampton passed away peacefully on Friday evening at Linda Manor Senior Campus with his family at his side. John was born in London, England, to John and Mary Elizabeth (Cullen) Galvin. He was raised in Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland by his father and stepmother Hannah along with his seven brothers and sisters. At the age of 22 John emigrated to the United States, settling in Northampton with his first wife Beatrice where they raised their four children. Later he married Mary F. (Nolan) Galvin and they lived many happy years on Warner Street. John worked for Smith College both in the Security and Maintenance Departments for many years, retiring in 1998. John enjoyed singing and traveling. He and Mary loved returning to Ireland where they both enjoyed many memorable times with their families in the old country. They also traveled to the Cape and Tennessee to visit Dollywood and the Grand Ole Opry. He was a member of both the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield and the Sons of Erin in Westfield. John was a devoted catholic, he and Mary are communicants of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish here in Northampton. John was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Michael and James Galvin and infant granddaughter Nicole LaCroix. He leaves his beloved wife, Mary F. (Nolan) Galvin. His children; Bea Chatterton (David) of Florence, Maryann Galvin of Turners Falls, James Galvin (Cheryl (Howe) Galvin) of Pittsfield and John T. Galvin (Michelle) of Murrells Inlet, SC. Grandchildren; Cody Chatterton (Sarah), Andrew Chatterton (Kayla), Savanna Galvin, Colin Galvin, Timothy Galvin (Lauren), Amanda Gonzales (Eddie) and Kari Lacroix. Great grandchildren; Daisy Chatterton, Sterling Chatterton, Violet Galvin, Alaina Galvin, Quinton Galvin and Nolan Galvin. John leaves his siblings; Patrick "Tony" Galvin (Eileen) of Hadley and Jeremiah, Dennis, Doreen and Maureen all of Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland as well as many nieces and nephews. FOLLOWED BY A REQUIEM MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL AT 11:00 A.M. AT ANNUNCIATION CHURCH, 85 BEACON ST., FLORENCE. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Northampton. John's family would like to thank the caring and compassionated staff at the Life Enrichment Memory Care unit at Linda Manor for all their support and kindness throughout John's final journey.
