Obituary

GOSHEN - Jerry J. Bird, 56, of Berkshire Trail West passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, while attending a Masonic event in Connecticut, an association very near and dear to his heart. Jerry was born in Pittsfield, a son of the late John and Barbara (Rancourt) Bird. He grew up in Windsor and moved to Goshen many years ago, beginning a wonderful relationship with the hill-towns through Spruce Corner Restaurant. Jerry owned and operated Spruce Corner for over 32 years, which might not have been possible without the loyal support and guidance of his father in law, Peter Provost. Jerry wasn’t just a business owner; he became part of the fabric of the tight knit hill-town families and businesses. Jerry was involved with the Cummington Fair community for over 20 years, volunteering his time and donating his support. He was a founding member of the Goshen Highlanders snowmobile club. He was also a member of the Burgy Bullets in Williamsburg, the Haydenville Legion where he served on the board, the Cummington Lions club and enjoyed playing softball in his youth. Jerry was devoted to the cause of the Masons and Shriners and was raised to the Masons on April 2, 1999. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason, member of the Chicopee Shriners Temple and the Court of Jesters #144 in Springfield as well as the Hadji unit of the Melha Shriners. He was a devoted member of the Mountain Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M. in Shelburne Falls, where he served in many positions over the past 20 years. The Shriners provides invaluable medical care to thousands of children and their families. Jerry leaves his devoted son, John of Goshen. His partner Stephanie White. His siblings; Candy Laflam, Christopher Bird, Frank Bird, John Bird, Karen Gosse, Dan LoPresto, Joy Osborn, John Raimer, and many nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by two brothers, Nathan Raimer and Karl Raimer. He also leaves his former wife, Tina Provost and her father Peter Provost who was like a second father to Jerry. Jerry would like to tell all his staff and customers that he loved you all and appreciated everything you did to make Spruce Corner what it is today.

Calling hours at AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton will be Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M.
