SOUTH DEERFIELD- James P. Johnston Jr., 78 of South Mill River Road passed away on Sunday morning at his home with his wife, Kathy, at his side. Jim or JJ as family and friends knew him, was born in Warwick, RI, a son of the late James P. Johnston Sr. and Margaret Finnegan Johnston. He was educated in Rhode Island schools and graduated from Bishop Hendrickson High School in Warwick. Jim began his career with Donnelly’s of Rhode Island as Assistant Manager. He later worked for Sweet Life Foods in Suffield, CT. as a Sales buyer and then joined C & S Wholesale where he served as the Executive Sales manager over 20 years before his retirement. Jim loved the outdoors, especially golfing with friends and family. He was a member of Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke, and a former member of Sweet Life Golf League and Greenfield Country Club. He enjoyed College basketball (Go Providence Friars!) and especially loved March Madness. He was the devoted husband of 43 years to Kathleen D. (Kelleher) Johnston, and they celebrated their wedding anniversary on October 3, 2024. He leaves his cherished daughters, Jennifer Johnston of South Deerfield and Michelle and Amy Johnston of Warwick, R.I. His cherished grandchildren; Jami, Kyle, Megan, Connor and his little princess Reaghan. He will be dearly missed by his mini schnauzer Little Gal Gansey. He also leaves his siblings, Michael Johnston and Alice Johnston of Warwick, RI and John Johnston of California and brother-in-law Mark Kelleher and his wife Robin of Hatfield and several nieces and nephews.
