Jacqueline C. (Tacy) Daley, 78, passed away peacefully on November 10th 2022 at Linda Manor in Leeds MA, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Jackie was born June 28th 1944 in Northampton MA, the daughter of Edward and Coral Tacy. She was raised along with her siblings, on Vernon Street in the Baystate Village section of Northampton. It was a picture-perfect upbringing; some would call it a Norman Rockwell painting. She grew up in a house with extended family close by at all times. If they didn’t live under the same roof, they lived in the same neighborhood. Jackie was blessed to be able to raise her children, in the same house, with extended family nearby, and the same family values.
Jackie attended Northampton Schools. She was a student at Vernon Street School and graduated from Northampton Highs School in 1962. She received her Bachelor’s degree in education in 1966 from Smith College in Northampton MA and went on to get her Master’s degree in 1987 from Westfield State College.
Jackie started her career in education working in Northampton Schools, where she was a teacher at the Ryan Road Elementary School. She left teaching for a short time, when she married and had her children. After a few years, she went back to work part time, as a substitute teacher in the Northampton Schools.
Jackie’s career continued in 1986 when she joined the staff at Colrain Central Elementary School as a 4th grade teacher. A job she loved. In 1993, she was appointed Principal. She led her students and staff with style and grace. She was known for her strict expectations, but also for her soft heart.
She retired in 2007, but continued to work part time as Interim Principal for the Mohawk Regional School District.
Jackie is survived by her adoring sons Christopher J Daley (Christy) of Easthampton MA, and John Joseph (JJ) Daley (Kiara) of Chicopee MA. She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Christopher E Daley of Haydenville MA, Morgan D Daley of Vero Beach FL, and Alex and Chelsea Bussler of Easthampton MA. She leaves her sister Diane of Worthington and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jackie was pre-deceased by her brothers Louis and Paul Tacy.
Jackie will be missed by her longtime friend Pat Stevens of Easthampton MA and Pat’s son Paul Stevens, his wife Sarah, and their children, Maddy and Jake, of Epping NH, who all had a very special place in Jackie’s heart.
Jackie was very active, even after retirement. She and Pat would often be seen walking around the neighborhood, taking hikes, kayaking or snowshoeing. She loved the outdoors. She enjoyed traveling and spent her summers at the cottage she shared with Pat, on Sebago Lake in Maine. In 2018 Jackie was able to take a trip with her family to Disney World. It will be a memory the family will cherish forever.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 22nd 2022 from 2pm-4pm at Ahearn Funeral Home 783 Bridge Rd Northampton, MA 01060 with a funeral home service at 4pm.
Burial will be private and at a later date
The family would like to thank everyone at Linda Manor assisted living LEP unit for all of their care and compassion for mom these past 2 years. And Kelly and the staff from Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for guiding us through this very difficult process.
