Florence- Irene T. Steidler, of Florence, passed away on July 7, 2024, at home with her loving family.
She was born January 5, 1939, in Northampton, the daughter of the late David and Mae (Barnes) Steidler. Irene was a lifelong resident of Northampton; she attended local schools and graduated from Northampton High School. She dedicated her entire career to helping others; she was employed as a physical therapy assistant at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for many years prior to her retirement in 1994. She was an active member of the former Blessed Sacrament Church in Northampton, volunteering her time for many church activities. More recently, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Northampton. Irene was lover of animals; she cherished her companion “Middy”, her cat, who was by her side until the end. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her late sister Shirley whom she missed dearly.
Irene was sadly predeceased by her parents, sister, Shirley Rodgers and nephew, Keith Rodgers. She leaves behind her loving nephew, Mark Rodgers and wife Cynthia of Kannapolis, North Carolina, her devoted niece, Susan North and her husband James of Florence. She also leaves her great-nephews and great-nieces, Daniel North and wife Tiffany, Jessica North, Amy Bartoszewicz, Matthew Bartoszewicz; great-great niece and great-great nephew, Paige and Cole.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00pm, followed by a Funeral Home Service at 5:00pm at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd. Northampton. A private burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
