Gloria grew up in Lawrence, one of the “Five Towns” of Long Island, and she was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York. Gloria attended NYU and Pratt Institute.
Married to Morton Silverman in 1952, Gloria was a devoted wife to him until her beloved husband’s death in 2002. Gloria was also predeceased by her adored first-born son, the late Andy, who died in 2009.
Gloria and Morton raised their family in Providence, Rhode Island, where she was very involved in the community, supporting the Haffenreffer Museum and Trinity Repertory Company. After living in Providence for more than forty years, Gloria and Morton moved to Williamsburg, Massachusetts in 1997, where she volunteered at the Meekins Public Library. Gloria was an avid fan of New England sports teams, most notably her pride and joy, the Boston Red Sox. She loved nature, bird watching, and animals, especially her own English springer spaniels and Birman cats. She also had a keen eye for interior design and fashion, and she was renowned for her cooking and baking skills, most notably for her love of comfort food.
