George F. Houck Jr., passed away, peacefully, in his sleep during the morning hours of December 15th while at Linda Manor Long Term Care facility. George was born, like all eight children in the family, in the family home on Pomeroy Terrace in Northampton. Born on August 16, 1928, George was the only son to Loretta (Reardon) and George Houck Sr. His seven sisters predeceased him. George graduated from Northampton High School in 1946 where he was a three-season athlete. He loved all sports, especially golf, playing throughout most of his life and was a member of the Amherst and Northampton Country Clubs. He joked that our mother had to agree to allow him to play golf every weekend if they were to marry and fortunately, she agreed. George was a World War II veteran and was a Sergeant in the Korean War. He was employed for 45 years by Local 1 International Brotherhood of Electrical workers and was also a life member of B.P.O.E. #997 (Benevolent and Protective order of Elks). George leaves his wife of 70 years, his best friend and the love of his life, Dolores (Paddock). His two daughters; Linda Rainville and her husband Gerry of Florence and their children; Robert, Michael and Christopher. Lisa Leary of Florence. His son George (Bud) Houck 3rd and his wife Heather (Gormely) of Jupiter, FLA., and their two children, Ryan and Alex. George will be remembered as a kind, patient, caring and generous man. He was a solid man, a devoted husband and father. We miss him in our lives. The family would like to thank all the staff at Linda Manor extended care and long term and Cooley Dickinson Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care of our father. At George’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations in George’s memory may be made to Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, 168 Industrial Dive, Northampton, MA. 01060.
