Ethel Mae "Sally" Reed

EASTHAMPTON – On the evening of August 13, 2023. Ethel “Sally” Mae Reed passed away at the Holyoke Medical Center attended by her husband, Allen Reed. Born April 1, 1954 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Robert Eugene Englert and Ruth Fuller Englert. Sally grew up in McKeesport and married Wayne Christie, a member of the US Air Force. After their daughter Wendi was born they moved to Washington State and had a second daughter, Samantha, before divorcing. Sally married Al Reed in 1991. Sally was always a hard worker and she was a gifted craftsperson. For friends and family she sewed, knit, and crocheted prodigeously, painted on cloth and wood, and created beautiful personalized Christmas hangings. For several years she owned and operated a telephone answering service, “Person to Person,” for physicians. Al and Sally moved to Palmer, Alaska in 2011 where they operated a popular thrift store named The Red Barn. In 2018 they decided to make the long trip to Massachusetts to be near Sally’s first cousin Connie. Sally shared studio space with Connie and enjoyed learning to make pottery until diminishing health prevented it. She is survived by her husband Allen Reed; Sally’s daughters Wendi Felts and Samantha Ayers of Washington; her siblings, Roberta Orbin of Alabama, Helen Mainwaring of Pennsylvania, Randolph Englert and Phyllis Phipps both of Alabama; her cousin Reverend Constance M. Baugh and Connie’s partner, Carolyn Benson of Easthampton. Sally also leaves five grandchildren, eighteen nieces and nephews, and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Sutton Englert and Joseph Edward Englert; her sister, Ruth Ann Englert Milton. All Services will be private.
