Esther N. (David) Bassett referred to as Norma by family and friends of Rockridge Retirement Community, formerly of South Hadley passed away November 27, 2023. Born in Northampton in 1926, the daughter of the late Arthur and Esther (Hershey) David. She was raised in Northampton and was a graduate of the former Saint Michael’s High School in that city. For many years she lived with her husband Roger in Amherst where they raised their family. She retired from Stop & Shop after 26 years as Deli Manager in 1988. A well-known prize-winning quilter, she also taught quilting at the Hill Institute in Florence for 11 years in her retirement. Norma also had an interest in antique wooden carousel horses and with her husband Roger restored several together. Working together, their Amherst home featured Japanese gardens that numerous people and gardening groups came to see. Norma was predeceased by her husband Roger F. Bassett of 54 years and second husband Francis Sheehan. She is survived by and will be missed by her two loving sons, Thomas Bassett and his wife Bobbie of Sunderland and David Bassett and his wife Lynne of Palmer. She also leaves one grandson, Scott Bassett, and his wife Kelly of Montgomery. The family would like to thank Nancy (Nan) Marhefka and her staff at Rockridge Northampton for the exceptional care they provided for their mother.
