Eileen Frances (Ryan) Monopoli, 91, of Hadley passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 30, 2025. She was born July 27, 1933 to the late William and Anna (O’Connor) Ryan in New York City. She was raised in Providence, Rhode Island, attended parochial schools, and graduated from Rhode Island College of Education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and Brown University with a Master’s Degree in History. Eileen married Richard V. Monopoli, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, in 1956. After Richard received his PhD at the University of Connecticut, he joined the faculty at the University of Massachusetts. They settled in Hadley where Eileen was a resident for 60 years and raised her family, after a career as a English and History teacher. Eileen was an avid reader who particularly enjoyed biography and history. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Eileen was a regular communicant and active member of St. John’s Catholic Church and later, the Most Holy Redeemer Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Eileen will be greatly missed by her children: Paula (Marin) of Bethesda, Maryland, Elizabeth of Easthampton, Christine Shea (Stephen) of Hatfield, Richard (Molly) of Larchmont, New York, Daniel (Katherine) of Hopkinton; her grandchildren: Richard (Jenna), Victoria, Christopher, Patrick (Petra), Allie (Alex), Levi, Vivian, Harmon, Ada, and Jack, sisters-in-law Lillian Mottola and Kathleen Ryan and a number of beloved nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Richard, her brother William and her sister Mary. The family invites you to join them for calling hours at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton on Wednesday, July 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be Thursday morning from the Funeral Home at 8:30 A.M. with a Liturgy of Christian burial at Most Holy Redeemer Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Hadley.
