Edward Slezek

Florence- Edward Slezek Sr, 93, of Florence passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving and caring family. Ed was born in Chicopee on April 10, 1930, the son of Jan and Pauline (Kolodziej) Slezek. He attended Chicopee schools and continued his education at the University of Massachusetts. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his nation honorably as an electronic technician aboard the USS Cabot. Following his military service, he began his career as a computer engineer at IBM. In 1957, Ed married his loving wife Arline Doyle of Northampton. They made their home together in Florence for over 65 years. Sadly, Arline predeceased Ed by a few months in April 2023, a few weeks shy of their 66th wedding anniversary. Ed was a loving father and coached his son’s baseball & basketball teams for many years. He also served as the treasurer of the Northampton Farm League during that time. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, deep sea fishing trips, and spending time with his family. He also worked as a volunteer as a computer instructor at the Senior Center, and was an avid bowler. Ed is survived by his four loving children: his daughter Karen Nuttelman and her husband Robert of Easthampton, and his sons Edward Slezek Jr. and his wife Tami of Hatfield, Steven and his wife Diane of South Hadley, and Brian and his wife Lori of Southampton. Ed leaves seven grandchildren: Meghan, Erin and Brian Russell, Alison and Kelsey Slezek, and Samuel and Jillian Slezek. He also leaves three great grandchildren: Cole Ulrych, and Logan and Riley Hopkins. Services for Edward will be scheduled at a later date. Ahearn Funeral of Northampton has been entrusted with Edward’s care.
