NORTHAMPTON – Dr. Dominic L. DeMello, 56, of Barrett Street was called safely home on Saturday May 3, 2025, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital after a long illness. His unwavering catholic faith and his many dear friends surrounding him in his final days. Dominic DeMello was born in Bombay, India, a son of the late John DeMello and Ana Celine DeMello. He emigrated to the United States and had resided in Eastern Massachusetts, beginning his education and long career in Medicine. He received his Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies. He then served his Internship & Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and he also received his Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, Division of Rheumatology. He has numerous Certifications and was nominated to the Fellows of American College of Rheumatology. It is a designation that recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of radiology through scientific and clinical research, radiology education, and scientific publications. Dr. DeMello’s philosophy in Medicine was simply to spend time educating his patients so they better understand their medical condition and make healthy lifestyle changes. Dr. DeMello has been affiliated with several hospitals in Western Massachusetts, most recently Mass General Brigham with Cooley Dickinson and had previously practiced with Baystate Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center.
Dominic was recently predeceased by his beloved mother, Ana Celine DeMello, on December 21, 2024. Dominic leaves his uncle, Joseph Alvares and his wife, Yvonne and their daughter, Anita Kumar, all of Virginia Beach, VA. and many dear friends here in Northampton. A very heartfelt thanks to Cooley Dickinson Hospice and their caring staff for providing Dr. DeMello with care, dignity and respect these past months.
Family and friends will gather to remember Dr. DeMello on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 99 King St., Northampton prior to the Mass. The Liturgy of Christian burial will be concelebrated at 10:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Northampton.
