David was born in Cambridge, MA to Glady (Chandler) Powers and David Powers but grew up in Northampton, MA where he lived for the majority of his life. He also had a second home in the country of Thailand and would travel between the two in the latter part of his life. He died from cancer in the arms of his wife Manee, whom he cherished above all.
David was survived by his loving wife Manee, step-daughters Tabitha Lockey and Pornpimon Chanyutha, mother Gladys Powers, sisters Patricia Powers and Paula Bogue (Phillip), brother Joseph Powers (Marlene) and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Gulley and father David.
David was blessed with many talents, but the greatest of them was his capacity to care about the people in his life. David touched the lives of many with his generosity, compassion, humor, positive attitude and acts of kindness. He will be missed by the many, many friends he had made throughout his lifetime.
David had a full life. He met life’s challenges with a fearless determination. No dream was too big, no wall too high. Through hard work, he succeeded in accomplishing most of what he desired. He had many occupations, entrepreneur, business owner, massage therapist and ER nurse - often simultaneously! He held multiple degrees from Greenfield Community College, UMass Amherst and The Massage School.
David enjoyed many pastimes such as scuba diving, traveling and golf, but his passion was always for his music. He had a lovely voice, and played guitar, harmonica and piano. Whether it was playing with friends at his home or with various groups in public venues, or participating in music festivals, making and listening to music was the joy of his life. His voice will be missed.
David was privately cremated and his ashes are to be distributed as he wished. In accordance with Buddhist traditions, a celebration of David’s life will be held October 4, 2024 at the Florence Civic Center, 90 Park St Florence MA 01062, at 3PM. Please come and share your story of David with us.
