Obituary

NORTHAMPTON — David B. Patenaude, 70, of Jackson Street passed away surrounded by the love and care of his family on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

David was born in Northampton and spent his entire life in the city. He graduated from Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School. He began his career at ChartPak in Leeds as a screen printer, later working for One Way Screen in Hadley before joining Community Enterprise in Greenfield as a supervisor. David found fulfillment in supporting individuals with disabilities.

David loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Ice fishing was a favorite pastime he regularly enjoyed with family and friends. He also enjoyed chatting with neighbors and passersby and was often found socializing in his front yard.

David is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Sniado) Patenaude of Northampton; his mother, Nancy Marhar of Northampton; his stepson, William Schalk, and grandson, Steven Audette, both of Florence; his siblings, Richard (Margaret) Patenaude of Northampton, William Patenaude of Florida, and Lori Ann (Steven) LaMontagne of Plainfield; his stepmother, Patricia Patenaude; and many nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by his father, Richard L. Patenaude of Northampton, and his brother, Gary.

He leaves many dear friends, including lifelong friends Ed Kubasek, David Lamica, Shawn Hebert, Mickey Spaulding and Ruby Rufo.

The family thanks Dr. McCracken, Nikki, Nicole and the Cooley Dickinson Hospital care team for the care and dignity they showed David and his family.

Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at AHEARN FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON, 783 Bridge Road, followed by a Religious service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton.
