David R. Corbett

May 29, 1949 — August 18, 2024

Northampton, MA - David Corbett, 75, of Northampton, MA, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

He was born on May 29, 1949, in Northampton, MA, to James Joseph and Alice Helena Ouellet Corbett. David and his brothers grew up in Northampton, where they enjoyed sledding, sharing one family vehicle, and honing their talents in building and construction.

At the age of 20, David volunteered to join the United States Navy in 1969 during the Vietnam War. Following his training in Great Lakes, Illinois, the first ship he served on was the USS Calcaterra, where he met two of his lifelong friends, John and Gary. In 1972, he transferred to the USS Intrepid. David was proud of all his service in the Navy, particularly his time on the Intrepid, which was commissioned in 1943 and became a museum ship in 1982, joining a long tradition of sailors.

After his time in the Navy, David worked at Kollmorgen in Northampton, MA, rising to the position of foreman. At Kollmorgen, he worked alongside another lifelong friend, Peter Provost, who later introduced him to his dear wife, Arline Mann Corbett, to whom he was married for over 30 years.

He was also a talented craftsman and landlord, renovating several homes, and was an engaged citizen in Northampton, regularly attending city council meetings for many years.

David is survived by his wife Arline Corbett; his stepson, Michael Paris, and daughter-in-law, Erika Paris; his grandchildren, Michele and Sophia Paris; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jimmy and Gary.
