WESTHAMPTON-David K Bridgman of Westhampton and Tucson, Arizona, passed away on Monday, August 19th, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. David was the son of Helen (Roche) and Lyman K. Bridgman of Florence. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Jeanne C. (Douyard) Bridgman, and five children, Susan LaClaire and husband, Raymond, and their children, Joseph, Patrick and Katelyn, John and his partner, Mary, Thomas and his wife Jodi and their children, Mitchell, Cassidy Gardner and her husband Joseph, Logan and his fiancée Afsaana, and Stephen Buckner; Amy Ducharme and husband, Wayne and their children, Danielle and Wayne 2nd; and son Daniel Bridgman; his sister-in-law, Joan Newton and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Spencer Bridgman and his wife, Patricia of Florence. Dave retired after 43 years, as Chief Master Sargeant with the Air National Guard of Westfield and served for 5 years on the Massachusetts ANG State Staff. Dave also served as a member of the Westhampton Board of Selectmen for 24 years, past President of the Hampshire County Selectmen’s Assn., past President of the Massachusetts Selectmen’s Assn., served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Assn. for ten years and a member of the Local Government Advisory Committee for five years. He also served as a member of the Hampshire County Commissioners for many years. He was a member of the Easthampton Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award. He was a member of the Westhampton Volunteer Firemen’s Association and served as Fire Chief for eighteen years. Dave was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hampshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross and served on the Board of Directors of the Hilltown Community Development Commission. Dave also served as a member of the Westhampton Recreation Committee, and a member of the Westhampton Finance Committee and Board of Health for many years. He also was a Little League coach for eleven years and manager/coach of the men’s softball team. Dave and his wife, Jeanne, enjoyed their family, traveling the country in their RV and spending many years wintering in Arizona. Calling hours for David will be held Saturday morning, August 24, 2024 at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. with a Service at the Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in Center Cemetery, Westhampton. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Westhampton Firefighters Assn, the Westhampton Public Library, or the Westhampton Elementary School’s David K. Bridgman Literacy Award for 6th grade graduates or Hospice of the Fisher Home.
