Cathleen F. Smith, 87, of Hadley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. Cathleen was born in Northampton on March 23, 1937, the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret Clark. She was raised in Northampton and attended local schools. Although accepted to Smith College, she chose to attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she met her husband John Robert Smith. Cathleen and John were married for 44 years. Cathleen was a teacher at Fort River Elementary School in Amherst for thirty years teaching first and second grade. She had a great love for her career and helping children. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley for many years. She enjoyed learning and loved books. Besides her parents, Cathleen was sadly predeceased by her beloved husband John in 2001. She is survived by her son David Smith, PhD and his wife Laura Finnegan of Chicago, and her grandson Matthew Leo Finnegan Smith of Chicago. A Liturgy of Christian burial for Cathleen will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 10:00AM directly at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 120 Russell St. Hadley.
