Barry L. Rock, 55, of Ledgewood Drive passed away unexpectedly on Friday in Springfield. Barry was born in Glens Falls on January 14, 1969, a son of the late Stanley & Janet (Mercure) Rock. He moved to the area in his youth with his family, attended local schools and graduated from Wilbraham High School. He furthered his education, receiving a degree in the HVAC field. He was employed at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield in the Engineering Department as an HVAC Technician. He had previously worked for Hurley & David and Surner Heating & Cooling over the course of his career. Barry loved spending time with his family, hiking, mountain biking and volunteered his time completing Trail Maintenance in the many varied paths we have here in Western Massachusetts. After High School, Barry enlisted in the US Navy, serving for six years as a Machinist Mate 2nd class. His last duty station, which he was very proud of, was aboard the USS Guadalcanal, an Iwo Jima-class amphibious assault ship (helicopter). He received the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and a Letter of Commendation for his service. He married Caitlyn Venskus and they settled in Sunderland to start a family. Caitlyn and Barry raised two loving children; their twins Max and Corrina Rock. He also leaves his sister, Robin Rock and her son, Bryce Girard of Easthampton (whom he considered like a son) and Pete Rock and his longtime partner Roberta Mott of Marlboro, MA and Pete's children, Travis and Jacob as well many other nieces and nephews. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FOR VISTING HOURS ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 2024 FROM 4:00 TO 7:00 P.M. AT AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 BRIDGE RD., NORTHAMPTON.
