Obituary

WHATELY-Barbara M. (Wasileski) Orloski, 70, of Christian Lane passed away unexpectedly at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Wednesday May 20th, surrounded by loved ones.

Barbara was born on August 21, 1955 in Montague MA, to Stanley & Lorraine (Theroux) Wasileski. She grew up in Millers Falls, was educated in local schools, graduating from Turners Falls High School and Greenfield Community College. She went on to work in various positions including candy striper at the Farren Memorial Hospital, food services at UMass and a medical records supervisor at Hampshire OB/GYN.

She met William Orloski at a polish dance held at the Whately town garage. They were later married on July 12, 1975, and recently renewed their vows after 50 years together. They were blessed with three daughters and her favorite role of all was being a stay-at-home mom and home maker.

Family was everything to Barbara, she was a devoted wife, mother, Babci and friend to many. Her love of family and keeping with her strong Polish heritage, led her to prepare many wonderful ethnic dishes for family and friends. She loved gatherings, entertaining and making people happy, she had such a big heart. She loved her flower gardens and watching the various wild life in her yard including bears, birds especially the herons that would perch out back.

Barbara was a faithful catholic and a member of the St. Anne’s Sodality at the Holy Family Church. She loved baking for the bazars and supporting their activities.

Barbara leaves behind her husband, William, daughters; Christine Herzig and her husband Holland Herzig Sr. of Colrain, Karrie Orloski and her partner Scott Liberty of Whately, and Kathy Marshall and her husband Charles Marshall III of Suffield, CT. As well as her cherished grandchildren; Natalie Lapa, Holland Herzig Jr., Braden Herzig and Briana Marshall.

She also leaves behind her siblings; Judith, Margaret, Frances, Dorothy and Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her brother Andrew. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be at AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. with a Catholic Mass at Holy Family Church, 29 Sugarloaf Street, South Deerfield at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery in South Deerfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Barbara to St. Anne’s Sodality, c/o Holy Family Church or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
