NORTHAMPTON, MA - Anne Sue Cernak, 77, of the Gables in Northampton passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 while on a trip to Nashville, Tennessee with friends. Anne was born in Northampton, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Nosko) Cernak. She was educated in local schools and at a young age it left an impression on her that led to a lifelong career of teaching. She graduated from Smith Academy and then from North Adams State Teachers College with her Bachelors in Education.
Anne received a Master of Education at American International College on May 13, 1976 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies on May 15, 1983.
Anne began what would become a long career with the Northampton public schools as a teacher and eventually Vice Principal at the RK Finn Ryan Road school in Florence. She taught for over 5 decades and often saw two generations of parents and their children. After retirement, Anne was never one to sit still and began traveling the country with friends, enjoying the United States and all it had to offer. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and was a communicant of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greenfield.
Anne leaves her stepbrothers Donald R. Osley and his wife Hildie of Hatfield and George Osley of Dover, NH. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Alexander Osley, Donald G. Osley and his wife Jennifer of Coventry, RI, Mollie Scortichini and her husband Larry of Port Jefferson, NY, Melani Skawski and her husband Michael of Hatfield and many great nieces and nephews in the extended Cernak/Osley family
Calling hours for Anne will be held at the AHEARN FUNERAL HOME, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. with Religious Services at the Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. with Pastor Jeffrey Galbraith, officiant. Burial will follow in Main Street cemetery, Hatfield.
