NORTHAMPTON-Ana Celine DeMello, 94, of Barrett Street passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at Linda Manor after a brief period of failing health. Celine was born in Bombay, India, a daughter of Joaquin and Effie Alvares. She immigrated to this country in 2005, living in Eastern Massachusetts with her son Dominic DeMello. She worked as a primary school teacher in India for over 40 years before her retirement. Celine enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling with her family. She was a devoted communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Northampton. Celine leaves her devoted son, Dominic DeMello of Northampton. Her brother, Joseph Alvares and his wife, Yvonne and their daughter, Anita Kumar all of Virginia Beach, VA. and many dear friends here in Northampton.
Dr. DeMello and family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the Mass.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 99 King St., Northampton. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Northampton. Donations in Celine’s memory may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 87 Beacon Street, Florence, MA. 01062
