FLORENCE- Alice Toohey, 98, formerly of Florence Rd. passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, after a long and wonderful life. She was born in Northampton, attended local schools and graduated from Northampton High School and Northampton Commercial College. She was a lifelong resident of the city, remaining in the family home all her life until a recent illness necessitated constant care. Alice worked at Pro-Brush in Florence as a Secretarial Clerk over four decades prior to retiring. Alice alongside her sister Mary, were inseparable, traveling together throughout the country and more importantly to Ireland, where they reconnected with their parents’ family. The visited Ireland four times, the first in 1962, the last in 1995, also traveling to Italy, France, Switzerland amongst many other countries. Alice was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and a life member of the Northampton St. Patrick’s Association. She leaves a nephew Michael Toohey of Medford and Patrick Toohey of Virginia. She was the last of the children of the late Patrick and Catherine (Walsh) Toohey. Her siblings, Mary, John and Donald Toohey, all predeceased her.
There will be visitation at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M. at the Annunciation Chapel, Beacon St., Florence. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Northampton.
